Zachran's Cajun Dirty Rice Recipe
A Louisiana staple with bold, savory depth — Zachran's Cajun Dirty Rice is the ultimate one-pot comfort dish. Rich with seasoned meat, the holy trinity, and Zachran's signature spice blend, this recipe brings authentic bayou flavor straight to your kitchen.
Ingredients
- 2 cups long-grain white rice
- 1/2 lb ground beef
- 1/2 lb chicken livers, finely chopped (optional but traditional)
- 1/2 cup onion, diced
- 1/2 cup celery, diced
- 1/2 cup green bell pepper, diced
- 4 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 tbsp Zachran's Cajun Spice Blend
- 2 cups chicken broth
- 1 tbsp vegetable oil
- Salt and black pepper to taste
- 3 green onions, sliced (for garnish)
- Fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)
Instructions
- Cook the rice: Prepare rice according to package directions using chicken broth instead of water for extra flavor. Set aside.
- Brown the meat: Heat oil in a large skillet or Dutch oven over medium-high heat. Add ground beef and chicken livers. Cook until browned, breaking up the meat as it cooks, about 6–8 minutes. Drain excess fat.
- Sauté the trinity: Add onion, celery, and bell pepper to the skillet. Cook until softened, about 5 minutes. Stir in garlic and cook 1 more minute.
- Season: Sprinkle in Zachran's Cajun Spice Blend and stir well to coat everything evenly. Cook for 1 minute until fragrant.
- Combine: Fold in the cooked rice and mix thoroughly until the rice takes on the rich, dark color from the meat and seasonings — that's the "dirty" in dirty rice!
- Taste and adjust: Season with salt and pepper as needed. Add a splash of chicken broth if the mixture seems dry.
- Garnish and serve: Top with sliced green onions and fresh parsley. Serve hot as a main dish or hearty side.
Tips
- Not a fan of chicken livers? Substitute with ground pork or andouille sausage for a different but equally delicious flavor.
- Make it spicier by adding extra Zachran's Cajun Spice Blend or a few dashes of hot sauce.
- Leftovers reheat beautifully — add a splash of broth to keep it moist.
- Pairs perfectly with smothered pork chops, fried catfish, or collard greens.
Seasoned right, every time — with Zachran's Cajun Spice Blend.
